Back to back away wins for Albion, but Greening looks set to leave

August 19, 2009 by igorbalis

Its been a good start to the season, West Brom have picked up seven points from the first three games. The last two away games against Forest and last night against Peterborough have given Albion their first wins of the season.

The good news is that Luke Moore has scored his first goals of the season, could this be the start of his Hawthorns career after nearly two years at the club! I hope so because he cost £3m.

But the bad news has come through today that club captain Jonathan Greening seems to be on the verge on joining Fulham (fucking Fulham again, they’re the West Brom 2nd team). It will be a shame to see him go, but i think if we get £5m+ for him then it’ll be a good deal. Especially as Dorrans looks great in centre midfield, despite his late sending off last night.

So if Jesus does leave us, then i think we’ve got a player who is younger and can potentially be an even greater influence on the club than Greening has been.

Albion go into the first away game of this season with a full strength squad. New signing Jerome Thomas might make it onto the bench for the trip east to Nottingham Forest.

Graham Dorrans could start after impressing midweek. Di Matteo has to decide if Cox or Beattie did enough against Bury to dislodge Moore and Wood, my answer would be no.

It will be another tough test for Di Matteo’s men against a revamped Forest side from last season. Both teams started their seasons last week with a draw but it should be an attacking game on Saturday.

Come on you Baggies!

West Brom sign wingman Jerome Thomas + Video

August 13, 2009 by igorbalis

West Brom have signed former Portsmouth and Charlton Jerome Thomas after the winger was released by Pompey this summer.

He had one good season at Charlton a few years back which caught the eye, since then Charlton got relegated and despite a move to Portsmouth he failed to recapture that consistent form.

Be interesting to see if Di Matteo and his staff can get the best of the player as he is a talent. But at the moment you can only think he’ll be used as a squad player. Not bad for free though.

Report: Bury 0 – 2 West Brom

August 13, 2009 by igorbalis

Comfortable win for the Baggies on Tuesday night, a few changes to the team from the Newcastle game with Graham Dorrans impressing in the middle of the park. Mattock had a solid start in his left back role after the move from Leicester.

Bury offered little throughout the match and it had that pre-season friendly feel about it. But the standout player was the young Scot Dorrans. If Greening does go before the window shuts then it will be great to see Dorrans get a long run in the team.

He opened the scoring on five minutes, slotting home from 16 yards after sloppy Baggie-like defending from Bury. Then Beattie’s strong run and cross down the right caused an own goal from a Bury defender. 2-0 and pretty much game over. Bury came into more in the second half as Albion eased off, but West Brom were worthy of the win and a place in the second round.

Jerome Thomas to join West Brom

August 11, 2009 by igorbalis

Jerome Thomas, who was released by Portsmouth this summer, is set to sign for West Brom. The winger has agreed a two-year deal with the option for a further 12 months at the Hawthorns. Hull City and Wolves have had the player on trial this summer but it seems as the Baggies have won the race to sign for the former Charlton winger.

More news if this signing is confirmed.
