West Brom were held to a 1-1 draw on saturday against league One side Peterborough and it was a well deserved draw for Darren Ferguson’s men. Albion gave starts to Hoefkens and Cech in the full back positions and stuck with Bednar and Moore upfront leaving new signing Jay Simpson on the bench.
Albion were second best throughout with Craig Mackail-Smith causing problems all afternoon. Mackail-Smith has been rumored to be a target for Mowbray and he impressed on this display. He had the best chance of the first half, after shrugging off Leon Barnett he struck the woodwork with a fierce shot.
Goalless at the half time, but West Brom made the breakthrough from a Greening corner and Jonas Olsson rose to head home. Both teams continued to press forward with Mowbray bringing on Jay Simpson and the impressive Graham Dorrans. But it was Peterborough who got their reward three minutes from time. A cross shot from McClean set up fellow striker Craig Mackail-Smith to finish easily past Carson and set up a replay on Tuesday 13th Jan.
A home tie against QPR or Burnley awaits the winner, West Brom will have to up their game if they are to progress in this seasons competition.
